Morocco Faces Fourth Covid Wave as Omicron Cases Surge, Experts Predict Peak

The Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise again in Morocco with a positivity rate of 40% in some regions. A new wave of infections due to the Omicron variant, which remains manageable according to experts.
At a time when we are observing a relaxation of barrier measures in society, the number of Covid-19 cases continues to increase. The kingdom is facing its fourth wave of community transmission of SARS-CoV-2, or the second wave of the Omicron variant.
According to Mouad Merabet, coordinator of the national public health emergency operations center at the Ministry of Health, the epidemic peak would be expected this week. The doctor compares the two Omicron waves and reveals that, for the moment, they are almost identical. Certainly, the situation could evolve rapidly, because in the agglomerations, the positivity begins to stagnate. This is "reassuring", according to the official.
Ahead of Aid Al Adha and the summer season, he recommends resuming vaccination among the elderly and re-examining a number of recommendations to limit infections.
