Morocco Faces Drastic Temperature Rise of Up to 7.4°C by 2050, Study Warns

The climate in Morocco, by the 2050 horizon, will be excessive. Under the effect of global warming, it will therefore be very hot in several cities of the Kingdom, with temperatures that could increase by 7.4 degrees.
Morocco will face unbearable weather, within three decades! Responding to the call of the Swede Greta, thousands of young people are mobilizing around the world to raise awareness among political leaders about the phenomenon of climate change.
Morocco, due to its proximity to the Sahara, will suffer the consequences of global warming by 2050, with drought, heat waves and fires. According to the Report of the scientists of the ETH Zurich University, cited by TelQuel, the climate of Fez will be close to that which prevails in Mosul today.
The maximum temperature of the hottest month, around 36°C, in August, should increase by 7.4°C, to reach 43.4°C. A situation that will be the result of an annual temperature increase of 2.7°C. As for the climates of Tunis and Madrid, they will have to increase by + 4°C, in August, in Tunis, and by + 6.4, in Madrid. The temperature in Rabat and Madrid would approach 27°C, for an increase of 3.1°C. This change in change is linked to an average annual change of 2.3°C. Marrakech will be like the east of Morocco, with a maximum temperature of 44°C, for an average annual variation of 2.9°C. For its part, Laâyoune will have the air of Alexandria, with summers at 33°C.
These changes affect temperate or cold cities that will soon resemble cities located more than 1000 km from the Equator. Cities close to the Equator will not undergo any major warming, the same source adds. And, to add that floods, on the other hand, will increase, in parallel with more frequent and more severe droughts.
According to estimates, the cost of climate-related disasters around the world would amount to $520 billion per year.
