Morocco Faces Air Travel Challenges Ahead of 2030 World Cup

In anticipation of the 2030 World Cup, Moroccan MPs have drawn the government’s attention to the lack of flights affecting certain tourist hubs in the kingdom, as well as the rise in airfares, denounced by Moroccans in the diaspora last summer.
During the question period in the government, devoted to the "major orientations of tourism policy", the MP from the Haraki group in the House of Representatives, Fatima Yassine, emphasized the disparities noted between the tourist hubs of the kingdom in terms of attractiveness, and the exaggerated rise in airfares that Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) had suffered during the Marhaba 2024 Operation, stressing the importance of this community, which represents about 51% of tourist arrivals.
The parliamentarian invited the government to ensure better organization of tourist transport, in the perspective of the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will organize alongside Spain and Portugal, stating that "this type of transport requires increased support to improve and modernize the transport vehicles" and make the prices and cost of services, which have been rising sharply for a few years, more accessible.
Fatima Yassine also mentioned the difficulties encountered by travel agencies due to intermediaries and the informal sector that is gaining ground. Regarding the tourist attractiveness of certain remote regions such as Drâa-Tafilalet, the MP from the Popular Movement called on the government to develop a regional tourism policy, estimating that "tourism is the magic solution to achieve development if the government knows how to promote and market it on the different world markets".
In this perspective, Fatima Yassine encouraged the government to raise Morocco to the rank of must-see tourist destinations worldwide, by launching the "Zourni" initiative aimed at discovering the emblematic sites of the kingdom. According to her, "this initiative could attract a large number of tourists, as one of the interests and recent trends in tourism is the discovery of the culture of local populations and interaction with them."
