Morocco to Face Uruguay in March Friendly After AFCON Disappointment

After their disappointing participation in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire, the Atlas Lions are preparing to face Uruguay, the 11th ranked nation in the FIFA ranking, in a friendly match in March.
A friendly match between Morocco and Uruguay could take place in March, according to local media El País. This confrontation is part of the preparations of Marcelo Bielsa’s men for the Copa America. This continental competition, which takes place alternately every two, three or four years since the first edition in 1916, will be held from June 20 to July 16, 2024 in 14 different stadiums in the United States, with the participation of 16 teams from South America, North America and CONCACAF.
Morocco is not among the participants in the Copa America. But the friendly match against Uruguay represents an opportunity for the Atlas Lions to put in a good performance in order to make Moroccan supporters forget their premature elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire. Morocco and La Celeste have already faced each other twice: on April 25, 1964 in Casablanca (2-1 victory) and on March 28, 2015 in Agadir (1-0 defeat).
