Morocco to Face DR Congo in World Cup Qualifying Playoff

The Atlas Lions as well as all the teams qualified for the play-offs of the Africa zone for the 2022 World Cup, are now aware of the opponents to face in order to have their ticket for the next stage. The draw took place on Saturday in Douala, Cameroon.
Following the draw, Morocco will face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next March. The other matches for the play-offs will oppose Egypt to Senegal, Cameroon to Algeria, Ghana to Nigeria, and Mali to Tunisia.
The draw was made according to the FIFA ranking of November 2021. According to the adopted strategy, the five best ranked teams must face the five least ranked teams. Thus the ten countries qualified for the play-offs were divided into two levels.
At the first level, that of the best positioned countries in the FIFA ranking of last November, there are Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Nigeria. At the second level, there are Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali and the DRC.
