Morocco Extends Tariffs on Turkish Textile Imports for Another Year

The Moroccan customs authority announced the extension for one year of the safeguard measure on imports of clothing and textile products from Turkey.
Thus, this definitive preferential safeguard measure on imports of Turkish textiles has been extended until December 31, 2022, according to a note from the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).
This extension aims to develop the Moroccan textile industry through the signing of partnership agreements, particularly with Moroccan retail chains, it is pointed out.
Concretely, these adjustment measures restore the import duty at the rate of 90% of the rate set under the common law, on textile and clothing products originating from Turkey.
Thanks to this policy, Morocco has seen a 23% growth in textile exports in 2021. The sector employs 189,000 people through 1,628 companies and generates a turnover of 50.48 billion dirhams, of which 36.5 are for export.
