Morocco Extends Flight Ban Through Year-End, Disrupting Holiday Travel Plans

The extension of the suspension of air links by the Moroccan authorities until December 31 has a negative impact on the end-of-year holidays. Moroccan tourism is suffering greatly.
The Moroccan decision to extend the suspension of flights to and from Morocco compromises the end-of-year holidays, notes the British website Inews. The British will therefore not be able to come to Morocco when the kingdom is one of their favorite destinations for holidays. A shortfall for tourism operators.
On Thursday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) announced that all flights to and from Morocco are suspended from December 9 to December 31 at least. On November 29, the Moroccan authorities had decided to close the Moroccan airspace until December 13 due to the rapid spread of the new variant of the Covid-19 virus - Omicron (B.1.1.529), particularly in Europe and Africa. A decision that is also motivated by the desire to preserve the achievements made by Morocco in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and to protect the health of citizens.
After the extension of the flight suspension, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has scheduled special flights (subject to special authorization) departing from Morocco and destined for France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Canada, the United States, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Gabon until December 31.
