Morocco Extends Ban on Events and Gatherings Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The resurgence of new infections has not argued in favor of event organizers. Questioned about a possible resumption of activities by the parliamentary group of the CGEM, of the second Chamber of Parliament, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, rejected their request.
"We cannot authorize event organizers to resume [their activity], while continuing to prohibit the organization of weddings and funerals," said the Minister of the Interior. Even the proposal of one of the advisers to the second Chamber pleading for the authorization of events bringing together between 50 and 100 people did not receive a favorable response from Abdelouafi Laftit.
According to the Minister of the Interior, these events bringing together between 50 and 100 people will not allow the sector "to get its head out of the water". According to the government member, a resumption of event activities is risky in the current situation. "Gatherings are clusters and as long as the epidemiological situation is what it is, as long as we are not 100% sure that the resumption of this sector does not constitute a danger for the population, the event industry will not resume," he added.
