Morocco’s Exports Surge 49.5% Despite Pandemic, Led by Auto and Textile Sectors

Morocco’s global trades have shown good performance both in terms of exports and in terms of investment attractiveness. Nevertheless, the effects of the health crisis related to the Covid-19 pandemic have not spared any sector.
According to the general framework for the preparation of the 2022 Finance Bill (PLF-2022), Morocco’s global trades recorded a 49.5% increase at the end of May compared to 2020. This growth is the result of the increase in sales in the construction (+44%), cabling (+47.4%) and vehicle interior (41%) segments.
The textile and leather sector, for its part, experienced a growth of 39%, thanks in particular to the 45% increase in sales of ready-to-wear clothing. Exports from the agriculture and agri-food sector and those from the electronics sector increased by 6.4% and 40% respectively at the end of May. On the other hand, exports from the aerospace sector fell by 6.6% during the same period.
The PLF-2022 sets as priorities the consolidation of the foundations for the recovery of the national economy, the strengthening of the mechanisms for integration and generalization of social protection, the strengthening of human capital and the reform of the public sector and the strengthening of governance mechanisms.
