Morocco Expels French Animal Rights Activist Over Stray Dog Dispute

The authorities of Agadir have expelled the French ecological activist committed to the animal cause, "Fanny", co-founder of the animal shelter Morocco Animal Aid in Aourir, for several reasons.

"Fanny" has become persona non grata in Morocco! The authorities of Agadir proceeded, on Monday, to her expulsion due to complaints received concerning her obstruction to the collection of stray dogs and the expiration of her residence permit. This co-founder of the association Morocco Animal Aid in Aourir, 17 km north of Agadir, supported by other activists, has undermined an operation to fight stray dogs carried out by the authorities last week, by managing to free about twenty dogs held inside a municipal truck in Aourir. A militant act that the residents do not appreciate.

Haunted by the fear of attacks by stray dogs, the residents oppose the attempts of this French activist to stop the collection of stray dogs, fearing that they will be subjected to cruel treatment or euthanized.

Another major fact: last March, "Fanny" categorically refused to leave a dwelling she had transformed into a dog shelter, where she was sheltering more than 600 dogs, dozens of cats and a few donkeys. The strong odors emanating from the shelter had prompted residents to file a complaint against her with the justice system, which resulted in an eviction order. But its execution was delayed by the authorities due to the lack of logistical means available to transport this huge number of dogs, as well as the resistance of the activist supported by her comrades against the public forces.
