Morocco Expands VAT Exemption for Prescription Drugs to Lower Pharmacy Prices

Moroccans now have an updated list of drugs whose VAT is covered by the state. This list was published by the Ministry of Health.
The 2019 Finance Act provided for the exemption from VAT of drugs whose ex-factory price excluding tax exceeds 588 dirhams (or whose retail price exceeds 962 dirhams).
In this context, the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has transmitted to its services a note containing the updated list of drugs exempt from value added tax (VAT) on imports. The objective is to reduce the prices of these drugs in pharmacies, specifies the Ministry of Health.
The measure concerns drugs for expensive diseases, in particular blood products, antibiotics, drugs against hemorrhages, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
