Morocco Expands Traffic Safety Measures with 552 New Speed Cameras by 2021

Thus, over 3 years, a total of 552 fixed radars have been made available to traffic control agents, said the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara, specifying that 148 will be installed inside and outside urban areas to control speed and compliance with traffic lights.

The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) is working to locate the sites and complete the installation and operation of the 552 units that will be operational in 2021. Speed control devices will be installed on the motorway network. These new radars can detect up to 24 vehicles at once, with details on infractions related to the continuous line, the distinction between light and heavy vehicles, the distance-approach in both directions and the use of laser scanning technology.

In 2018, the ministry had acquired 280 new generation mobile radars for the Royal Gendarmerie and the General Directorate of National Security. They will be complemented by a second batch of 280 that can detect up to 320 km/h over a distance of up to 1200 m and the possibility of operation in both directions.

In total, 108 radars will be installed in the Casablanca-Settat region; Rabat-Salé-Kénitra will have 69 devices; Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima 51; Fès-Meknès 62; the Oriental 45; Béni Mellal-Khénifra 43; Marrakech-Safi 92; Drâa-Tafilalet 13; Souss-Massa 38; Guelmim-Oued Noun 11; Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra 10; Dakhla-Oued Eddahab 10.

With the installation of these new radars, the Ministry of Transport expects six million tickets.
