Morocco Expands Tourism Strategy to Target Israeli and African Markets

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is exploring new high-potential markets for the revival of the sector. Countries like Israel, Portugal and even Africa are to be conquered as a matter of urgency.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office is interested in international tourists from Africa, Israel and Portugal, which represent high-potential markets, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc, stressing that, for this revival, tourism professionals intend to seize the opportunity presented by the resumption of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel. Prospecting, market study... are on the agenda to seize the most promising opportunities in this market. In figures, the publication reports that Israeli tourism in the world represents 8.47 million travelers in 2019 for a population of about 9 million, $9.76 billion spent and a growing number of trips (average annual growth of 13% in 5 years).
Although described as classic, Portugal is not negligible in the eyes of the ONMT, which, for this revival, intends to work on better understanding the behavior of its tourists and their consumption patterns, in order to adapt and strengthen the offers, and thus boost the Moroccan destination.
On the African continent, with more than 1 billion individuals, with an increasingly active youth and a significant middle class, only 4% of tourists currently penetrate Morocco. Thus, as part of this revival, Senegal, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa and Guinea hold a good place on the ONMT’s list, indicates the daily, which highlights the development of Morocco’s economic and diplomatic relations with many countries on the continent.
