Morocco Expands Tax Exemption for Athletes and Sports Officials in 2021 Budget

All Moroccan athletes and sports officials will benefit from tax exemption as of next year. A measure included in the 2021 Finance Bill.
This text, adopted on first reading on Friday by the House of Representatives, provides for extending the tax exemption to all coaches, technical staff and administrative staff, reports Assabah. Only athletes were covered by this measure in 2020.
For this measure to be effective, Article 60 of the Tax Code will have to be amended. The 2021 Finance Bill provides that this regime will last in part until 2024. Thus, the salaries and bonuses of athletes and sports officials will be 90% tax-exempt next year, 80% in 2022, 70% in 2023 and 60% in 2024, it is specified.
The parties in the governing coalition are the initiators of these new amendments, the objective of which is to encourage sports associations to create public limited companies, which will pay their taxes.
