Morocco Expands Tangier Stadium to 87,000 Seats for World Cup 2030 Bid

The extension work on the Grand Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier is accelerating. Complying with the standards of the International Football Federation (FIFA), the infrastructure will host the next Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Morocco is preparing for the upcoming football competitions. This is evidenced by the progress of the extension work on the Grand Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier. In a statement to the Rue20 website, an official source reveals that the construction phase of the lower stands with a capacity of 17,800 spectators has started, after the removal of the athletics track. According to the same source, the construction of all the facilities of the stadium and its surroundings will be carried out in accordance with the FIFA specifications. It is also planned to build large drainage canals for rainwater, and to equip the stadium with modern lighting.
The extension work also includes the development of 3 training fields linked to the Grand Stadium, as well as the development of the outdoor space. At the helm, three Moroccan, Spanish and German companies. The supervision of the work is ensured by two Moroccan and German design offices, under the supervision of a Moroccan architect. At the end of the work, the total capacity of this covered stadium will reach 87,000 spectators, in addition to containing an honorary stand with 75 individual (VIP) boxes, like modern stadiums.
