Morocco Expands Solar Power: 30 MW Farm Near Tetouan Set to Launch

The installation of solar farms continues in Morocco. After the one in Oualidia, operational since the first quarter of 2021, a new farm will be commissioned very soon in the north of the country.
Soon, the independent energy producer Greenpower Morocco 2 will commission its photovoltaic solar power station developed precisely east of the city of Tetouan, for four years as part of Law 13-09. This solar farm, reports Challenge, has a capacity of 30 MW and is equipped with photovoltaic panels manufactured in Morocco, precisely by the Almaden Morocco Company in El Hoceima.
According to the agreements concluded with the exclusive distributor of water and electricity for the Tangier-Tetouan region, the electricity production by Greenpower Morocco 2 will be dedicated solely to the use of the delegated manager Amendis-Tanger to meet its auxiliary service needs. The producible of around 67 GWh should make it possible to save some 40,000 TCO2/year.
It should be noted that after the Noor Ouarzazate solar farms with a capacity of 580 MW already installed, Noor Midelt under construction for a capacity of 800 MW and the Ain Beni Mathar thermo-solar plant on the Algerian border, the Tetouan solar station will be the first to be commissioned under the 13-09 regime.
