Morocco Expands Hotel Capacity in Ambitious Tourism Push Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco plans to significantly increase hotel capacity in the coming years and prepare the country for the 2030 World Cup. A very ambitious plan has just been launched in this direction.
The Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company (SMIT) has unveiled plans under the aegis of Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism. With a clear objective in sight: To bring the accommodation capacity to 340,000 beds by 2026. This expansion, which represents an additional 40,000 beds, is a key part of Morocco’s preparation to welcome a record number of 26 million visitors by 2030, coinciding with the co-organization of the World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
Imad Barrakad, CEO of SMIT, welcomed the progress made, positioning Morocco as one of the most attractive countries for international tourism investors. With the inauguration of 104 new hotels in 2023 and the hosting of international hotel chains, Morocco is confirming its status as a preferred destination.
In 2024, SMIT plans to accelerate the development of nine innovative tourism sectors, ranging from seaside getaways to desert adventures. The objective is not only to enrich the country’s tourism offering, but also to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector.
