Morocco Expands Historic Monuments List with Four New Rock Art Sites

New sites have been classified under the "historic monuments" umbrella, by the Ministry of Culture and Communication (Department of Culture). According to the ministry, this approach is part of the implementation of its action plan aimed at protecting, enhancing and promoting the national heritage.
The list of historic monuments has just been expanded in Morocco. First, the Azrou Klan site, located at the level of the Commune of Laâouina (Province of Assa-Zag). It has a large number of engravings traced on a vast rocky surface which is registered on the list of historic monuments. It is, the ministerial source specifies, a site that stands out, in particular, by a unique drawing representing a ship.
In addition, the press release states, three other rock art sites are taken into account by this classification: Adrar Zerzem, Tarslt and Oumougjim. They all fall under the Commune of Aday, in the province of Guelmim.
In total, therefore, there are four new sites that have a particular interest, particularly, from a scientific point of view. Indeed, they are full of numerous engravings dating from different historical periods. These engravings represent a lever for cultural tourism in the region, the same press release from the Ministry of Culture and Communication specifies.
