Morocco Expands Development at Guerguerat Border, Defying Polisario Threats
Saturday 17 August 2019, by
Morocco is further strengthening its presence at the Guerguerat border post. In this regard, despite the threats of Brahim Ghali, leader of the Polisario Front, the Kingdom has launched the urbanization of the area through the construction of social housing and functions.
Morocco remains deaf to the many agitations of Brahim Ghali, leader of the Polisario Front. The latter, as usual, has threatened to take up arms again. This, according to maghreb-intelligence.com, is in response to the projects launched by the Kingdom at the Guerguerat border post, with a view to modernizing the area. Morocco, ignoring these threats, continues to strengthen its presence in this border crossing, which is in no way part of the buffer zone.
According to the same media, Rabat is planning the construction of functional housing for the benefit of the officers of its army, who until now have been residing in bivouacs. Moreover, 500 other housing units are planned for the populations of Birgandouz, located about 80 kilometers from Guerguerat. The files for these two projects are well finalized, with the awarding of contracts to bidders who are investors in the Sahara region.
