Morocco to Expand Major Highways to Three Lanes in 2021 Infrastructure Push

Before the House of Representatives, the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara, announced that the operation to triple a number of highways will be launched during the year 2021.
Responding to a question on "the measures taken to ensure the continuity of major infrastructure projects and support the transport sector", he explained that 2021 will see the launch of the operation to triple the highway connecting Tit Mellil and Berrechid over 29 km for around 1.8 billion DH and the Guercif-Nador highway over 105 km for an estimated cost of 5.7 billion DH.
He also recalled that work has already begun on the tripling of the highway connecting Casablanca and Berrechid over 27 km for around one billion dirhams, as well as on the tripling of the Casablanca bypass over a length of 31 km (900 million DH). The national highway network has undergone considerable expansion in recent years, reaching a length of 1,800 km currently compared to 1,437 at the end of 2011.
As for the expressways, Mr. Amara specified that they currently total 1,334 km open to traffic. 739 km are under completion, in particular the Tiznit-Laâyoune roads over 550 km, the one connecting Rabat and Kénitra and the one connecting Tétouan and Chefchaouen, he added.
