Morocco Exempts Professional Soccer Clubs from Taxes for 5 Years to Boost Sports Industry

The establishment of sports companies has required legal and tax changes. During a conclave held on Tuesday, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), the CNSS, and club representatives reviewed the implications of this reform. It is noted that clubs will be exempt from taxes for the next 5 years.
The entry into force of the law on sports companies and its changes were the main topic that brought together at the beginning of the week the financiers of the first and second division Botola clubs, representatives of the DGI and the CNSS at the Mohammed VI complex in Maamora.
The president of the FRMF urged all clubs to adhere to this desired change in the football landscape. This involves reviewing the legal texts relating to tax returns, as well as those related to the CNSS, he said.
And Fouzi Lekjaa added that the purpose of the CNSS contributions is to enable the players, but also the technical and medical staff, to ensure a decent and dignified life at the end of their careers.
For his part, the acting director of the DGI explained that after the decision was made to transform the clubs into sports companies, it was agreed to fully exempt these companies from corporate tax for a period of five consecutive fiscal years, starting from the first year of operation.
The exemption mentioned includes the tax on the acts and writings by which the sports associations proceed to the contribution, of all or part of their assets and liabilities, to the sports companies constituted in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 30-09. Hassan Boubrik, the head of the CNSS, hopes to see the other disciplines engage in this same project.
