Morocco Eradicates Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks in Multiple Provinces

The six outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease discovered on January 7 in Fquih Ben Salah and Khouribga have been eradicated by the veterinary services of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA).
"These cases of foot-and-mouth disease were discovered in four farms in the provinces of Fquih Ben Saleh and Khouribga, one farm in Sidi Bennour as well as an isolated farm in Tangier," ONSSA said, stating that it is closely monitoring the health status of the national herd and implementing all preventive health measures, in coordination with the local authorities.
Among the measures taken, the slaughter and destruction of all cattle and sheep from the farms infected by the epidemic, the cleaning and disinfection of the farms, compliance with biosecurity measures by people and equipment entering and leaving the farms, the strengthening of health monitoring in the affected regions and nationwide, and the vaccination of all cattle around the epidemic outbreaks, the statement said.
ONSSA recalls that it launched a booster vaccination campaign for the entire national cattle herd at the beginning of January, the first phase of which concerned the border areas and the provinces affected by the epidemic.
