Morocco Enlists Traditional Notaries to Educate Youth on Sexual Health Before Marriage

The National Order of Adouls in Morocco, the Moroccan Association for Family Planning (AMPF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are joining forces to prepare young Moroccans for marriage. A convention in this framework was signed on Monday in Salé for the care of sexual and reproductive health of young people.

This convention will not only allow AMPF to strengthen the capacities of Adouls in the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH), but also to train educators capable of providing the necessary basics to young people to prepare them for marriage. To this end, information and awareness campaigns will be organized in the various areas of SRH, including family planning in rural areas.

The Association also intends to "participate and organize national and international conferences with the Adouls in Muslim countries on the empowerment of young Muslims in marriage, exchange experiences and good practices to achieve common goals and mobilize UNFPA’s material resources in the realization of these actions."

For their part, the National Order and the Regional Councils of Adouls undertake to play their role in order to "facilitate young people’s access to the marriage empowerment booklet, identify the beneficiaries of the training to strengthen skills in terms of reproductive health," reports leseco.ma.

The objective of this convention is to strengthen the cooperation between the partners and to "provide quality health services through the Youth Empowerment for Marriage Program aimed at reducing the risks in terms of sexual and reproductive health that can harm health and lead to family problems."
