Survey: Majority of Young Moroccans Oppose Premarital Sex, Support Criminalization

A majority of young Moroccans remain firmly opposed to any premarital sexual relations. This is what a recent survey reveals, the results of which were presented to Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, and Abdellatif Maazouz, President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council.
Conducted by the daily l’Économiste and the Sunergia group on a sample of 1,636 young people, aged between 15 and 30, from ten of the twelve regions in the kingdom, the study tells us that 68% of the young people surveyed remain firmly opposed to any premarital sexual relations, saying they are in favor of criminalizing these relations. 8% of respondents say they are in favor of it and 14% abstained from answering.

When asked about their social situation, more than a quarter of them said they were suffering from unemployment and precariousness, living on less than 500 DH per month. 44% of the young people surveyed remain optimistic about the future, despite their living conditions. This rate is 50% among young people aged 15 to 16. Urban youth remain more optimistic (46%) than rural youth (41%). In terms of salary, urban youth demand 4,000 DH, while rural youth demand an average of 2,900 DH. As for student youth, they hope to receive a salary of 6,000 DH.
