Morocco Emerges as Top African Destination for Japanese Investment, Ambassador Says

Morocco is the second largest recipient of Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) in Africa. This was stated by the Japanese diplomat accredited to the Kingdom, Takuji Hanatani, during a conference held at the International University of Rabat (UIR) on the theme "Economic Development of Japan".
In his presentation, Hanatani estimated that Morocco has "rich and efficient" human resources. The ambassador stressed the importance of this "human potential" which is a "major asset in the service of competitive investment and the creation of added value".
The Moroccan human capital is a "qualified and efficient resource" at the service of the economic development of the Kingdom, he noted, adding that some 70 Japanese companies are currently operational in Morocco and have contributed to the creation of around 40,000 jobs.
"Japan does not have natural resources and relies mainly on its human capital," he noted. To this end, he advocated for more investment in this "determining factor" of the economic growth of nations.
