Morocco Emerges as Potential Manufacturing Hub Amid Global Supply Chain Shifts

China could lose its leadership status in manufacturing and supply, for having been the starting point of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Oxford Business Group, some companies are looking for alternative production bases, and Morocco seems to meet all the conditions.
The covid-19 pandemic has highlighted certain realities such as the need to have "plans to diversify the global industry". Even if the epidemiological situation in China seems more stabilized, it is difficult to forget that the fact that the virus originated in this country has led to many disruptions in the global supply chain of basic products.
Faced with the consequences generated by this situation, the international reaction did not wait. "The authorities of the major economies of the world have immediately publicly encouraged their companies to relocate their manufacturing activities outside of China," reports Hespress.
Proposals for better conditions are pouring in from all sides. In April, Phil Hogan, the European Commissioner for Trade, told international media that "the bloc would seek to reduce its trade dependencies lured by the 2.2 billion dollar envelope offered by Japan to the benefit of all countries wishing to disengage from China." Behind the European Union, there are the United States of America which also offer flexible possibilities to potential partners. Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, said that "the government was offering full coverage to American companies wishing to transfer their activities from China to their country."
But in reality, covid-19 has only precipitated an already obvious situation, since even before the pandemic, "more and more competitive alternative markets were challenging China. This is why, according to the Oxford Business Group, "Morocco is a competitive alternative and prospect, especially since the kingdom has been cited as an example recently for its effective response to the coronavirus pandemic."
