Morocco Emerges as Major Mask Producer, Eyes Global Export Market

With a daily production of seven million masks, Morocco not only manages to meet the demand of its population, but is also moving towards exports.
Le Monde salutes this Moroccan dynamic. The newspaper believes that the kingdom is positioning itself in the global race for masks. This is an essential product during the confinement and deconfinement period.
In March, Morocco began to invest in the manufacture of 100% made in Morocco general public masks, sold at 0.7 euros per unit. According to the newspaper, this "initiative has made Moroccans proud and elicits the admiration of political leaders around the world".
With the management of the Ministry of Industry, the subsidies from the special emergency fund and the donations, 19 local textile factories have decided to switch to the production of units from non-woven materials. Le Monde recalls that Moulay Hafid Elalamy had explained that the first few days had been difficult due to "a series of glitches" but the situation is now "under control".
The French newspaper states that Morocco produces 7 million masks per day; which makes it self-sufficient. Better yet, 34 companies are investing in the manufacture of washable fabric masks that are not subsidized, some of which are intended for export. This operation, notes Le Monde, has the advantage of "positioning the kingdom in the global race for masks". Moreover, France, which is preparing its deconfinement, is counting on the production of factories in the country.
