Morocco Emerges as Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Hub, Attracting Global Automakers

Thanks to its strategic geographical position with Europe, its wealth of minerals essential for battery production and its renewable energy sources, Morocco seems to have all the assets to become the leader in electric vehicles in Africa and even in Europe.
For a few years now, Morocco has become the Eldorado of European automakers like Renault and Stellantis, who have set up factories there. But in recent months, Chinese giants have set their sights on the kingdom and plan to install five battery manufacturing plants for electric vehicles and accessories there.
Morocco attracts Chinese investors in the automotive sector due to its cheap labor. A worker in an automotive factory in Morocco earns an average of 500 euros per month and enjoys acceptable working conditions, with days off. All these elements give Morocco a competitive advantage, notes El Debate.
The European manufacturers with factories in Morocco are satisfied with their production. Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, announced this year an increase in his production of vehicles and engines at the Kénitra plant. For its part, Renault has two factories, in Tangier and Casablanca, where it produces its Dacia models (Logan, Sandero, Lodgy, Dokker...)
The automotive industry is Morocco’s main export sector, ahead of the agricultural sector. King Mohammed VI is implementing an ambitious infrastructure development plan (roads, highways, trains, ports, airports), which should allow the factories operating in the kingdom to increase their production.
