Morocco Embraces Drone Technology to Modernize Agriculture Sector

The Moroccan agricultural sector has more drones for the treatment, diagnosis or control of crops. The kingdom is thus putting new technologies at the service of the development of the national agricultural sector.
The aircraft made available to the agricultural sector provide the necessary information quickly and accurately that farmers need to take sustainable and effective measures. Drones are now "an effective and sustainable tool" for a forward-looking agriculture, said Abbes Kailil, professor and state engineer in aeronautics and drone pilot, to the MAP.
The use of 100% Moroccan drones also makes it possible to reduce the cost of very expensive and less effective traditional methods, especially in hard-to-reach crops. They are also autonomous, programmed and can cover 100ha/day/drone, Map reports.
For "corn, sugarcane, rapeseed and sunflower fields, the drone imposes itself as an effective solution and not an alternative," said Mr. Kailil. These drones are also used in 3D mapping and the inspection of construction sites and agriculture, said Marwane Khadimi, a young engineer and member of the EMlaero technical cell.
Regarding the security and regulatory aspect in Morocco, Anass Ait Ben El Arbi, a computer engineering specialist and member of the EMlaero technical cell, believes that this aspect limits creativity among young people. But the president of EMlaero, also a mechanical engineering specialist, Assia Qarqachat, stressed that the absence of this regulatory and security aspect for the citizen "will stifle the freedom of citizens". So to avoid these problems, companies that need drones for specific uses can have a license, she concluded.
