Morocco’s Electricity Production Surges 22% as Private Sector Boosts Energy Output

Moroccan energy production has seen a 22.3% increase this year, after a 5.9% increase the previous year.
According to the conjuncture note of the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts, this increase in production is mainly due to the good performance of private production (+39.5% after +7.2% a year earlier).
This production, added to that of the projects developed under Law 13-09, has increased by 109.6%. Its share in national production has been raised to 6.6% at the end of September 2019 against 3.8% the previous year.
As for the volume of electricity imports, it fell to 86.2% at the end of September 2019. A year earlier, it had seen a 33.5% drop in a context of an increase in net energy to 4.4%, after +0.6% a year ago.
During these first 9 months of the year, electricity consumption has seen an increase of 0.6%, after a decline of 1.9% a year earlier. This is thanks to the increase in medium-voltage energy sales, which stood at 10.1% (after +0.3%), exceeding those of distributors set at 2% (after +0.4%) and households at 5.4% (+0.5%)
