Morocco’s Economy and Society Reshaped by COVID-19, Joint Study Reveals

The High Commission for Planning (HCP), the United Nations System (UNS) in Morocco and the World Bank (WB) have published a "strategic note" on the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on sectors of activity and the daily life of the Moroccan population.
This "strategic note" presents a unique, inclusive, collaborative approach and makes recommendations based on reliable data so that no one is left behind. The results of the surveys and analyzes carried out by the HCP as well as the reports on the economic outlook in Morocco by the World Bank have been taken into account.
According to the MAP, the document also presents the efforts made by Morocco in the fight against the pandemic and "highlights the main recommendations of the United Nations System agencies" for an effective response to the consequences of the crisis on the socio-economic level.
Apart from its unpleasant aspects, the "strategic note" calls for seeing, in the crisis, "opportunities for a recovery aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" that leaves no one behind. In its recommendations, it also advocates for "greater attention to the monitoring of multidimensional poverty, innovation in the collection and analysis of contextualized data, investment in the continuity of public education and health services during and after the crisis". It also calls for valuing the role of civil society.
The electronic version of this strategic note is already being disseminated from August 17, 2020, on the websites of the HCP, the UNS agencies and the World Bank as well as on their respective social networks, the same source said.
