Morocco Eases Lockdown Measures, Keeps Borders Closed to Foreign Tourists

Morocco entered, on Monday, July 20, the third phase of the deconfinement process but its Moroccan borders will remain closed "until further notice" to foreign tourists except for Moroccans stranded abroad and foreign residents of the kingdom and Moroccans residing abroad (MRE).
Several easing measures of the confinement have been taken as part of the third phase of the deconfinement process. The government authorizes hotel structures to use 100% of their accommodation capacity, not exceeding 50% of their capacity in common areas (restaurants, swimming pools, gyms...); the holding of sporting events without an audience; gatherings not exceeding 20 people; the reopening of cultural centers, libraries, museums within the limit of 50% of their reception capacity. Public transport vehicles are now authorized to operate 75% of their capacity instead of 50%.
Only Moroccans stranded abroad, foreign residents in Morocco and Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) will be able to return to the country. This should give a breath of fresh air to the tourism sector, which has been hit hard by the health crisis related to the coronavirus.
