Morocco Thrashes Uganda 5-0 in U17 AFCON Opener

The Moroccan national under-17 team won their first group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations with a score of five goals to zero against Uganda. The match took place on Sunday at the El Bachir stadium in Mohammedia.
The Moroccan players, coached by Nabil Baha, took the lead as early as the 3rd minute of play thanks to a goal from Ilies Belmokhtar. Shortly after, in the 8th minute, Driss Aït Cheikh scored the second Moroccan goal with a header. Morocco continued to control the game and obtained a penalty, converted by Ziyad Baha in the 24th minute, making the score 3-0. Elias Belmokhtar scored his second goal in the 33rd minute, allowing Morocco to lead 4-0 at halftime.
During the second half, the trend was confirmed with Moroccan dominance. Ziyad Baha added a fifth goal for Morocco, also with a header and his second of the match, in the 71st minute. The Ugandan selection tried to react with counter-attacks, but their players lacked precision in the opposing penalty area, failing to score. The Moroccan goalkeeper, Chouaïb Bellaârouch, was not put in major difficulty. Ugandan attempts to reduce the score at the end of the match remained in vain, often due to a lack of concentration at the time of the finish.
The match therefore ended with a score of 5-0 in favor of Morocco. Thanks to this victory, the Moroccan team takes the provisional first place in group A with three points. Uganda occupies the last place with zero points. The final ranking of this first day will depend on the result of the match between Zambia and Tanzania, scheduled for this Monday.
The next match for the Lionceaux de l’Atlas is scheduled for Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. against Zambia. They will then face Tanzania on Sunday, April 6, also at 8 p.m. These two matches will be played at the El Bachir stadium in Mohammedia.
