Morocco Dominates Spanish Tomato Imports, Surging 307% in a Decade

Spain imported 78.05 million kilos of Moroccan tomatoes in 2020, up 14.26% from the previous year and 307% over the past ten years, according to the Spanish statistical service Estacom. With this largest ever volume of Moroccan tomatoes imported, Morocco was the main supplier to its Iberian neighbor during the past year.
Portugal is the second largest supplier of tomatoes to Spain after Morocco, with 33.15 million kilos worth 31.77 million euros and an average price of 0.96 €/kg. Next come the Netherlands with 30.73 million kilos worth 24.5 million euros and an average price of 0.8 €/kg, Belgium with 14.58 million kilos of tomatoes worth 9.23 million euros and an average price of 0.63 €/kg. France is in 5th place with 4 million kilos for 3.34 million euros and an average price of 0.84 €/kg.
In total, Spain imported 165.32 million kilos of tomatoes in 2020 for 152.03 million euros, at an average price of 0.92 €/kg, reports hortoinfo.es.
