Morocco Dominates Spain’s Fruit and Vegetable Imports, Exports Rise 4% in Q1

Morocco has once again been Spain’s leading supplier of fruits and vegetables in the first quarter of this year, according to figures just released by the Spanish Federation of Fruit, Vegetable, Flower and Live Plant Producer Exporter Associations (FEPEX).
Thus, in the first quarter (January to March), the kingdom exported 264 million euros worth, up 4% compared to the same period in 2018, FEPEX said, citing data from the Spanish Department of Customs and Special Taxes.
Still according to these figures, Morocco’s fruit and vegetable exports accounted for a third of Spain’s total imports of these products. In total, the kingdom exported 137,760 tons during this period, which represents a little more than half of Spain’s imports from non-European countries.
And the trend is not expected to slow down if we look at the figures from recent years. For comparison, Morocco exported 70,420 tons in 2015 and 137,760 in 2019, almost double (95.5% more).
