Morocco Dominates: Record-Breaking Influx of Students Reshapes French Higher Education

Morocco retains its first place in the ranking of countries of origin of foreign students enrolled in French higher education.
According to statistics from the French Agency for the Promotion of Higher Education (Campus France), France had 445,000 foreign students for the 2024-2025 academic year, or nearly 15% of the student population in the country. Countries like Morocco, China, Italy and Senegal remain the main countries of origin.
With a workforce of over 42,000 students, Morocco tops the ranking of countries of origin of foreign students enrolled in French higher education in 2024-2025. Moroccan students represent about 10% of all foreign students in France. Moroccan talents are increasingly in demand internationally, an excellence that is notably reflected in their remarkable presence in the competitions of the grandes écoles in France, Campus France pointed out.
The majority of Moroccan students choose universities (56%). However, 19% of them enroll in business schools (19%) and 14% in engineering schools. Over the past five years, the increase has been particularly marked for business schools (65%) and engineering schools (18%), it is specified.
