Morocco Destroys 136 Tons of Potatoes Treated with Unapproved Pesticides

136 tons of potatoes have been destroyed by the regional services of the Onssa in Berkane. This decision follows the results of the analysis which revealed their treatment with pesticides not approved for potatoes.
The Moroccan authorities have opted for the precautionary principle in the monitoring and control of the use of pesticides in fruits and vegetables. This justifies this decision to destroy these incriminated potatoes, the official reports of which have been drawn up against the offenders and transmitted to the justice system.
Thus, the Onssa services in Berkane proceeded to take samples from potato samples stored in warehouses approved by the Office, and others stored outside these warehouses in order to submit them to the same analyzes.
For the ONSSA services, the potatoes stored in approved warehouses are compliant and respect the approved pesticide residue rates, unlike those stored outside the approved warehouses but treated with pesticides not approved for potatoes.
And it’s not over, as similar compliance control actions are already planned not only in the Oriental region but also in other regions of the kingdom.
