Morocco Deploys Emergency Water Trucks as Drought Grips Rural Areas

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has activated the emergency program for the supply of drinking water by tanker trucks for the year 2021. The heat wave and water shortages are plunging certain areas, especially rural ones, into a worrying water deficit.
This year again, Morocco is recording the two extremes of climate change, with some areas more affected than others by a shortage of drinking water. In a letter addressed to the Treasurer General of the Kingdom (TGR), the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, requested that credits be granted to the local authorities of the provinces concerned in order to allow them to rent or purchase tanker trucks to urgently address the drinking water shortage.
"Given the urgency of this operation, the sub-ordonnateurs will be required to use the negotiated procurement procedure by citing paragraph 4 of paragraph 11 of Article 86 of Decree No. 2-12-349 of March 20, relating to public contracts," specifies the Minister of the Interior.
