Morocco Denies Withdrawing as Host of 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

Contrary to information published by South African media, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) assures that Morocco is committed to hosting the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The kingdom had hosted the 2022 edition.
South African media have recently reported that Morocco has renounced hosting the women’s national team tournament that will take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, to focus on organizing the men’s AFCON, scheduled from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. "We have submitted to CAF our intention to organize the next edition of the Women’s AFCON, which was entrusted to Morocco in the past," said Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association, SAFA. And he added: "CAF must now respond to us. And if the response is positive, we will seize this opportunity, because it will be an opportunity to defend our title (won in the final against Morocco, editor’s note). From what I’ve learned, there are two or three other interested countries. South Africa is not the only candidate."
Contacted by Le Matin, a well-informed source within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) denies the rumors about a possible withdrawal of Morocco. "These rumors have no basis," she assures. "We are currently visiting the Mohammed V Complex, precisely for the preparations of the Women’s AFCON." Questioned on the subject by the same media, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) refuses to comment.
