Morocco Denies Single-Company Deal for COVID-19 Test Procurement

The Moroccan Ministry of Health denies rumors that two contracts for the acquisition of rapid coronavirus diagnostic tests, for an amount of 400 MDH, were awarded to a single company. This information is "devoid of any foundation."
The ministry states, in a press release, that it has concluded a contract for the acquisition of 2 million rapid coronavirus diagnostic tests, in accordance with the laws in force under the health emergency and in compliance with the principle of competition in public procurement.
Contrary to the information relayed by some media, the ministry explains that it has launched a consultation with leading companies worldwide in this field. Similarly, the offers were studied from a technical and financial point of view, by commissions composed of representatives from the various competent directorates.
According to the ministry, the tests proposed by the successful bidder, in addition to their technical effectiveness, are compatible with the equipment of the national laboratories, which constitutes a saving in terms of additional expenses due to the acquisition of screening devices.
As for the cost of this contract, which amounts to 212 MDH including tax, the ministry assures that the purchase price of these tests has been set by the company at the global level, adding that these are the same prices paid by several European and Asian countries for the acquisition of 6 to 10 million tests.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health assures that it is ensuring an exemplary application of all legal provisions in order to properly manage the resources made available to it.
