Morocco Denies Rumors of Medical Consultation Fee Hikes, Union Confirms

Medical consultation fees in Morocco have not undergone any increase. The information was denied by a union, assuring that no agreement has been signed between the private sector doctors and the government on these prices.
The strongly relayed rumor has provoked reactions, particularly on social networks. These same rumors claim that the price of a general practitioner consultation will rise to 200 dirhams and to 300 dirhams for specialists. This decision would result from an agreement between the professionals and the executive, reports SNRTnews.
When questioned on the matter, the head of the National Union of General Practitioners (SNMG), Tayeb Hamdi, clarified the situation, assuring that for the moment, no new tariff has been adopted for consultations. The project carried by his union is still under study, he specified.
"What is currently being discussed between the representatives of the private sector unions, the private clinics, the Ministry of Health and the compulsory health insurance funds are simply negotiations that do not in any way include the prices of consultations," he explained.
For the record, the sector unions had met, on Friday, January 6, with Health Minister Khaled Ait Taleb, in order to address a number of problems caused by the expiration of the national agreements in force since 2006.
