Morocco Denies New Road Safety Taxes, Clarifies Existing Regulations

Following rumors of the creation of new parafiscal taxes to be collected from users or an increase in their value for the benefit of the National Road Safety Agency, the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water has provided a formal denial.
Decree 2.19.971 of December 25, 2019 (28 Rabii II 1441) relating to parafiscal taxes for the benefit of the agency, as published in Official Bulletin 6842 of December 26, 2019 (29 Rabii II 1441°), does not provide for new taxes for users, nor any increase in their value, indicates the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, in a press release.
According to the ministry, this decree, which came into force on January 1, 2020, "replaces and repeals the previous decrees without causing any change or any increase in the costs of operations or services provided to users, which are the subject of the decrees promulgated in 1977 and 2008 as amended and supplemented".
