Morocco Denies Plans for Compulsory Voting, Government Spokesman Says

Mustapha al-Khalfi, Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, Government Spokesperson, puts an end to rumors about compulsory voting that would be imposed from the next elections. According to him, the Government has never considered such a possibility.
The information was given during the press conference that followed the work of the Council of Government. The spokesman for the Executive, on Thursday, September 12, stressed that the Head of Government "categorically denies this initiative and that there is nothing special planned", thus brushing aside the rumors that have circulated, making believe that the Government "was examining the issue of compulsory voting to address the reluctance of citizens to vote".
Some media have even stated that "the Ministry of the Interior has held meetings in recent weeks with political party leaders to discuss the issue". Which turned out to be false.
This clarification by the Government therefore puts an end to the rumors that have been agitating the country for a few days.
