Morocco Delays Vote on Cannabis Legalization Bill

The Council of Government, meeting this Thursday, February 25, was to proceed with the adoption of the draft law on the use of cannabis. But this much-anticipated decision by Moroccans will be known at the next meeting of the Council of Government.
Will Morocco legalize or not the use of cannabis? The Council of Government has decided to postpone the adoption of this draft law to its next meeting. This Thursday, the Minister of the Interior recalled the new WHO recommendations, including the one relating to the removal of Indian hemp, another name for cannabis, from Schedule IV of substances with a high potential for abuse and no significant therapeutic value.
The minister also stressed that the use of cannabis will be governed and regulated by a specialized National Agency, so that Morocco can derive a real economic opportunity from it. According to his presentation, studies on the development of legal cannabis cite "an average growth of 30% globally and 60% in Europe."
According to the minister, the specialized National Agency will be responsible for the production, manufacture, marketing or transport of cannabis. It will be the one to issue authorizations and handle negotiations at the international level.
