Morocco Delays Israel Deal Implementation, Awaits Biden’s Stance on Western Sahara

Morocco seems to be conditioning the implementation of its normalization agreement with Israel on the position of the new US President, Joe Biden, on the American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
Morocco is waiting to know Joe Biden’s position on the issue of its sovereignty over Western Sahara, before proceeding with the implementation of the normalization agreement with Israel, reports The Arabic Post. The kingdom wants to ensure the opening of the US consulate in the city of Dakhla before direct flights between Tel Aviv and Casablanca begin to operate and other elements of the agreement take shape, according to anonymous sources.
Morocco, the United States and Israel had signed a joint declaration on December 22, 2020. It had been agreed that each party would have fully honored its commitments by the end of January, and that it would have identified new actions. Except that to date, Israel has not yet opened liaison offices in Morocco, no direct flights between the two parties have resumed and the US consulate has not yet been inaugurated.
