Morocco Declines Algeria's Earthquake Aid Offer, Foreign Ministry Says

Algeria "takes note" of Morocco’s decision to inform it that it does not need its humanitarian aid.

While the Moroccan Minister of Justice had suggested on Monday that Morocco "has accepted the humanitarian aid proposed by Algeria, which will be shipped in coordination with the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the Director General of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs "informed the Algerian Consul that after assessment, the Kingdom of Morocco did not need the humanitarian aid proposed by Algeria," according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on Tuesday and relayed by APS.

Algeria "takes note" of Morocco’s decision "the obvious consequences of which are drawn," the statement said, recalling that the Algerian authorities had informed the Moroccan authorities "of the measures taken [...] for the mobilization of three large-capacity aircraft for the transport of humanitarian aid to Morocco according to the necessary needs in the event of natural disasters. The Algerian Consul General in Casablanca was, it is said, in contact with the crisis cell created at the level of the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to formalize the aid proposal presented by Algeria."
