Morocco Declares Health Emergency, Assures Essential Supplies Will Remain Available

Morocco is in a state of health emergency as of this Friday. The announcement was made during a joint press conference, led by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, and the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb.
During this period, the duration of which remains undetermined, the Minister of Commerce indicated that the stores selling products used daily by citizens will remain open, adding that "the trucks transporting goods are also available". According to his clarifications, "no problem should arise in the coming months".
Regarding the health sector, the minister explained that Morocco "has taken important measures that are not easy", after the first case of contamination was detected. These measures, although restrictive, have made it possible to keep the situation under control. For the minister, the "state of health emergency" and the restriction of movement until further notice are the only inevitable means to keep the coronavirus under control.
From now on, leaving one’s home will be conditional on obtaining an official document from the authorities, under well-defined conditions. This involves going to work in administrations and open establishments such as companies, factories, commercial premises and spaces related to the daily life of the citizen, pharmacies, the banking and financial sector, hydrocarbon supply stations, clinics and medical offices, telecommunications company agencies, essential liberal professions and premises for the sale of hygiene products.
