Morocco to Decide on CHAN 2023 Participation Amid Travel Dispute with Algeria

In the absence of a response from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding its request on the transport of the Atlas Lions to the CHAN 2023, scheduled to take place in Algeria, Morocco should pronounce itself this Wednesday, on its participation or not in this competition.
Will the Moroccan football team be present at the next African Nations Championship (CHAN)? The answer to this question will be known today, according to a source close to the file, quoted by Hespress, specifying that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has been waiting for the decision of CAF, which should intervene no later than January 10, 3 days before the start of the competition.
The federation had indeed seized the African football body to demand the opening of the airspace from Morocco to Algeria in order to be able to transport the national players participating in the tournament. This request is based on the presence of a clause that should allow teams to make flights without stopovers to the host country.
The Algerian authorities have transferred the political crisis with Morocco to the sports field, maintaining their position of closing the Algerian airspace but also prohibiting aircraft registered in Morocco or coming from the Kingdom from overflying their territory. Algeria demands that the Moroccan team pass through Tunisia to reach its territory or that it arrive on a Tunisian plane.
