Morocco Debuts Turkish-Made Bayraktar TB2 Drones in Western Sahara Skies

On Thursday, Morocco carried out a first test of the Turkish-origin Bayraktar TB2 drone it purchased in April. The device was spotted flying over the sky of Laâyoune.
The ultra-high-performance unmanned aerial vehicle was armed with MAM-L ammunition, a laser and GPS/INS-guided 22-kilogram bomb, reports the specialized Spanish website Defensa, according to which "this smart bomb can hit various targets such as main battle tanks, armored vehicles, air defense systems, personnel as well as low-displacement warships".
The acquisition of 13 models of this type of drone, at a unit cost of $5 million, will allow Morocco to demonstrate its military power at the regional level and face destabilizing threats in the region.
The test carried out in the sky of Laâyoune was planned in the purchase contract but also the installation of an operations center, in addition to a driving simulation system and a digital data storage system, concluded the same source.
