Morocco’s Dakhla Airport to Undergo Major Expansion and Modernization

The National Airports Office (ONDA) wants to modernize Dakhla airport. An investment of around 5.29 million DH has been announced to upgrade the infrastructure and substantially improve the quality of services.
Thus, the Office will proceed on January 13 to the opening of the bids relating to the call for tenders launched as part of this project, reports the newspaper Aujourd’hui, according to which the first phase of the project will increase the reception capacity of Dakhla airport from 3,000 m² to 10,000 m².
This specifically involves extending the aircraft parking lots, which will accommodate seven medium-sized aircraft, widening a car park and developing an aircraft parking lot and another for cars near the freight terminal.
It is also planned to build a hotel area and set up various networks and road access, as well as the construction of a new airport terminal for private aviation.
With a total amount of 5.29 million dirhams, this investment is part of the Office’s strategy to increase the reception capacities of regional airports and the generalization of compliance with international standards in terms of air traffic flow, air safety, airport security and quality of services.
